History:

1859-60: Construction of the stone arch bridge over Kororoit Creek at Plumpton. The bridge is one of few 19th century stone bridges in the Melton Shire area. It is associated with one of Victoria's primary early roads from Melbourne to Portland, with the original Ballarat goldrush road, and was the main coach road between Melbourne and Ballarat until replaced by the railway in 1889. 2
1870: Girder span added to stone arch bridge over Kororoit Creek at Plumpton. 2
1954: The CRB altered the alignment of the road reservation on the west side of Koroit Creek at Plumpton to make the curve less sharp. 2
1955: New deck installed on stone arch bridge over Kororoit Creek at Plumpton. 2
1968: Bridge over Kororoit Creek at Plumpton widened and deck replaced. 2
January 2018: Works commenced on eliminating the level crossing with the Ballarat railway line at Sydenham. 3
August 2018: Citybound side of bridge over the Ballarat railway line at Sydenham opened to traffic. 3
October 2018: Completion of the 6-lane bridge over the railway line at Sydenham. Works also included new bike lanes and footpaths on the bridge, the removal of existing pedestrian crossing infrastructure below the bridge, implementation of new paths, vegetation, open space and lighting under and around the bridge, plus the connection of Victoria and Sydenham Roads under the bridge. 3
