Named after the wife (Annie Alston) of one of the early settlers in the area, Alstonville, a rapidly growing town, is located on the Bruxner Highway between Ballina and Lismore. The town is nestled in lush surroundings at the top of the Ballina Cutting, giving a significant amount of the town excellent easterly views towards the coast and the Richmond River. Of interest in the area are Lumley Park, Ann Brown Park (rainforest gardens) and the Summerland House (nursery & crafts, 3 km south). The town centre is quite small considering the surrounding population, however its commercial interests are essentially linked with Lismore and Ballina due to their close proximity.
