Lake Hume Village
Lake Hume Village is a small settlement to the west of Lake Hume.
The lake is formed by a weir, named Hume Weir, across the Murray River on the New South Wales / Victoria border. The lake bed is the location of the Hume & Hovell camp, which was set up on 19 Nov 1824. Both Hume and Hovell were responsible for exploring lands south of Sydney during the early days of European settlement, and it was their work which lead to the first road south, called Great South Road, which eventually was extended to Melbourne.
The area is a popular tourist spot with things to see and do all year round including boating, fishing, camping and sightseeing.
