Christies Beach is a coastal suburb in Adelaide's south, offering scenic views from Witton Bluff and access to Horseshoe Reef, which is visible at low tide. In 2021, an artificial reef was added offshore near the mouth of Christies Creek.
The Kaurna people originally used the area, known as Mullawirratingga, as a seasonal camp, building temporary shelters called wodli. European development began in the 1830s with a whaling station, and land from Glenelg to Witton Bluff was made available for settlement in 1838.
Farming dominated until 1923, when Rosa Christie established the first local subdivision, giving the area its name. Residential growth surged in the 1950s, driving nearby commercial and industrial development. The Christie Beach Post Office opened in 1945 and became Christies Beach around 1961.
