The heritage listed town of Strathalbyn lies on the Angas River and is at the northeastern edge of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The town, settled in the late 1830s is a well established centre for the surrounding sheep, grain Advance Directional Sign wine producing region and was once an important stop on the Victor Harbor - Adelaide railway. The town is well known for its standout historic buildings, such as St Andrews Church, and its two distinct shopping precincts which offer a range of antiques, arts, crafts and collectables. Also nearby are the spectacular Soldiers Memorial Gardens, which encompass a section of the Angas River adjacent to the CBD, plus wineries at nearby Langhorne Creek and Lake Alexandrina. The town name is a combination of "Strath" meaning wide valley and "Albion" meaning hilly land.
