Southport is a small town in far southern Tasmania. It was settled in 1837 and was once the biggest town south of Hobart, but as the shipping industry declined and fires took their toll, the population dropped. As of 2021, just 149 people lived there. Although Cockle Creek is further south, it's not a gazetted town, making Southport Australia's southernmost township. Shore-based whaling also took place there in the 1800s.
